The most important feature of the new series of main jets from Polini remains the high precision in manufacturing and the very careful measurement of the orifice to ensure correct carburetion adjustment. The main jet affects the carburetion, primarily for the last three-quarters of the throttle opening, but its influence begins slightly from the mid-opening. Carburetion modification: by increasing the size of the jet, the mixture becomes richer, increasing the amount of fuel drawn into the engine; by reducing the size of the jet, the mixture becomes leaner, decreasing the amount of fuel drawn into the engine; an increase in temperature or an increase in altitude causes a lower air density and, consequently, a richer mixture; improper carburetion with excessive leaning of the mixture (reducing the size of the jet) leads to engine overheating up to seizure; improper carburetion with excessive enriching of the mixture (increasing the size of the jet) reduces performance by increasing mixture consumption and causing fouling of the spark plugs.
